full FUCKING offense but you can say “queer as in fuck you” all you want but the movement of taking queer back was so people could HAVE THE CHOICE of reclaiming it. that’s what reclaiming a slur is. it’s having the choice to identify and use it or not.
and when you make fun of 15 year olds who live in bumfuck arkansas and don’t want to be called the words they see spray painted on their lockers, you look like just as much of a villain as the people who call them queer in a derogatory way. i’m sorry, but not everyone gets to grow up in a blue state, or a country where being gay is even legal. not everyone wants to be called queer.
acting like it’s “only the younger generations” who don’t like queer is not only incorrect (also we’re only like 10 years younger than some of y’all, calm the hell down), but making fun of and insulting young LGBT people who don’t know their history is pretty fucking ugly considering a lot of us don’t get the privilege of getting to know older LGBT people and ask about it, or research it, or read about it. you don’t get to point and laugh at us for being blind when the cloth has been tied over our eyes.
but REGARDLESS, saying queer is a slur isn’t some lie, it’s not ahistorical, or terf rhetoric, it’s stating a fact. so what if people identify as it? it’s still a slur. it doesn’t stop becoming one just because a certain number of people find it cool to use now. the progression isn’t just in that people are using it, it’s that people have the choice if they want to use it or not.
so stop taking that choice away from people.
