i hate to be the bearer of bad news, but i really think its our fault we have this mindset. the tumblr culture of “if i follow you we’re automatically friends and i would d*e for you” is the issue.
if i follow you if means i like your blog and your original content. it doesnt mean i’d run into a burning building 4 u, we’re not automatically friends, we’re definitely not bffs, its Not That Deep, i just like ur blog. you’re welcome to start a conversation with me & i have nothing against starting a friendship, but we dont need to be mutuals in order for that to happen lol
tumblr mutual culture is so twisted now bc we put so much emphasis on “i wOuLd TakE a bULLet foR mY muTuAL wHo i’Ve OnLy taLKeD tO oNcE!11!” that when a mutual unfollows, it hurts more since we’ve fabricated this whole ~(fake) Friendship~ in which its one and only backbone is bc we follow each other lmao
